New Printing Facility & Commercial Center

Last year McKissick Associates was asked to join a team of engineers and specialist to serve as the Principal Architect for a new building to be located on an open brownfield lot in Harrisburg's Cameron Street Industrial Corridor. One of the more challenging aspects of the project was that the level of the first floor would need to be over ten feet above the existing grade because the entire site is located in the Paxton Creek flood plain. This challenge was turned to an advantage as the design of the building rose up higher above the site allowing the upper floors a prime view of the State Capital Building. These upper floors will consist of leaseable office space, while the lower portion will house a light industrial printing plant.

This retail, office and light manufacturing complex is made up of a large open 2-story printing plant bordered by a glass spine along one of the primary entrance veins into Harrisburg. The office and retail “spine” overlook Cameron Street and the Capitol Complex.

Situated at the corner of Cameron and Herr Streets, the site terminates at the State Street Bridge, where stairs lead up to the rear side of the Capitol Complex.
