On August 31, 2006, employees of Erdman Anthony and McKissick Associates watched as Mayor Stephen Reed and Pennsylvania's Secretary for Community and Economic Development, Dennis Yablonsky, broke ground on the future Capital View Commerce Center, a brown-field remediation site located on the Cameron Street industrial corridor in the city of Harrisburg.
McKissick Associates is working in partnership with the engineers at Erdman Anthony to provide a green building situated on what is part of the Paxton Creek flood plain. Design was a challenge allowing for the building to be built 10 feet above the flood zone. The ground floor area will provide parking hidden from street view and the upper floors will then have a prime view of the State Capitol Building.
The 215,000 SF building will house a light industrial printing plant, from which 95,000 SF of additional office and retail space will also be provided. This site, abandoned for 34 years after Hurricane Agnes flooded the area, is looking forward to redevelopment and the city is looking forward to the additional jobs that will be provided when the building is complete and occupied.
This project was most recently recognized in Revitalization Magazine. A national publication based in Chicago that has recognized the building as an Urban Revitalization project and will have an article about the project in the September/October issue.
