Volunteers of America (VOA) of Pennsylvania contacted McKissick Associates with a need to develop a parcel of property in order to create 15 assisted living housing units as an outreach of their community aid initiative. Developed from start to finish in five months to meet expiring funding deadlines, the project is being funded through a mixture of US Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD), State and County Department of Community & Economic Development and VOA internal funding sources. The site, located on a 10 acre parcel which is over 70% wetlands, couples a sensitive site layout with a variety of sustainable design features.
McKissick Associates has begun the historic building research on the one-story brick theater built in 1919. This research, coupled with developed conceptual design options, will determine whether or not this building can be utilized and renovated as theater space for the new owners, the Twin Valley Players, who are currently celebrating their 38th year of theater productions. This project is being funded through the Northern Dauphin Revitalization Project, a volunteer organization whose focus is on regional tourism and the restoration of its local historic properties to their former grandeur.
