Beyond proven experience in executing award winning elementary projects with a high degree of client satisfaction, there are several specific reasons why McKissick Associates is the right choice for school districts.
Mr. McKissick has spend the past 22 years almost exclusively with educational clients. He has received certification as a Registered Educational Facility Planner and won awards for his educational facility designs from architectural, contracting and educational planning organizations. During his previous owner/partnership of Hayes Large Architects, he completed the new Selinsgrove Intermediate Elementary School, the new Bedford Elementary School, the R. B. Walters Elementary and the new Elkland Elementary for the Northern Tioga School District.
Prior to his partnership at Hayes Large Architects he served as their project manager for the new Andrew Jackson Elementary for the Williamsport Area School District, and the new Carrolltown Elementary for the Cambria Heights School District. New construction is very much part of the team's portfolio with more than six new facility designs since 1990 totaling more than $100,000,000 in value.
Much more difficult to effect than new construction, Vern McKissick has over $300,000,000 in major K-12 renovation and addition projects in his background.
Mr. McKissick is very experienced in working with school districts with limited budgets. For the Northern Tioga School District, the sixth poorest school district in the state (based upon the Districts Market Value Aid Ratio), he completed over $24,000,000 in projects between 1989 and 1999. Mr. McKissick's projects cost per SF for both new construction and addition and alterations has been well below the Pennsylvania Department of Education's published average of $115 SF (1999/2000 school year).
A Recognized Educational Curriculum & Facilities Planner, Vern McKissick has been involved in numerous ground-up elementary planning efforts in the northeastern United States. In November 1999, he was honored with the top curriculum implementation award at the Vancouver BC conference of CEFPI for design of the new Selinsgrove Elementary School. Vern continuously strives to stay familiar with and learn about the successful elements of school projects across the US though continuing education involvement in the Council for Educational Facilities Planners International's regional and national activities, as well as the Committee on Design for Educational Facilities of the American Institute of Architects.
Our educational planning team has depth. In addition to the planning experience of Vern McKissick III, AIA with a constructed project value of over $400,000,000, retired school superintendent, Mr. Vern McKissick Jr. is also an educational planning associate with the firm, bringing more than 30 years of actual field experience to the Team.
Vern McKissick and his staff have longstanding relationships with many experts in the field of curriculum planning to draw upon as needed. Based upon past experiences working with school districts in developing architectural solutions to match curriculum goals, rest assured that the McKissick Associates team can easily work with the board and administration in developing a coordinated elementary, middle level, secondary, or vocational solution.
In building McKissick Associates, it has been our goal to build on past strengths and target the traditional weaknesses that owners have identified in architectural services they have received. We are carefully sculpting our services to meet the expectations of school districts above and beyond those that architects have been providing as a normal part of the architectural process.
Utilizing the independent services of several well-respected construction management firms, we can provide detailed cost estimates at the schematic, preliminary design, and at 90% construction document completion.
If desired, the McKissick Associates team will provide full-time on-site oversight of the project during construction in addition to (or in lieu of) the district hiring its own "clerk of the works". By having our staff in the field, we reduce the turn around time for problem solving in the field and can work to better ensure the contractors' work is completed in the client's best interest.
