This project involves the renovation of an 19th century wood-frame building previously used as a hospital facility during the Civil War. There are many Civil War artifacts in the museum collection, but more interesting is the local history surrounding the Columbus-Belmont area. The museum will attempt to tell the facinating tale of a town once suggested for the national capital, its struggle with neutrality during the Civil War and its ongoing battle with nature.
Gallery 1 focusses on local history and the changes in events and geography in the Columbus-Belmont area. Here we detail events that are not specifically Civil War related but include some elements from that time period.
Gallery 2 emphasizes the Civil War as it specifically effected the Columbus-Belmont area under both Union and Confederate occupation.
Gallery 3 is about a larger picture of the war as it affected the nation. Many artifacts, uniforms, weapons, etc. will be in cases in this gallery. The stories told here will be about overall strategy and the effect on the soldiers and on humanity in general.
