Milton Area Middle/High School

Additions & Alterations

This project, which houses the district’s 6th through 12th grade program, was initiated after an extensive community survey and feasibility study. The project includes renovation and expansion of two interconnected buildings, a two-story high school constructed in 1956 and an interconnected junior high school constructed in 1977. Since that time the District’s programs had grown and changed with needs including not only classroom space, but also significant upgrades of the core facilities. Effectively the center of the Milton community life, the final design included a complete restructuring of the building circulation system and creation of a “student commons”. This project has seven additions totaling over 67,000 SF and renovation of over 250,000 SF of occupied building.

At the community’s request, the facility includes a new 1,200-seat continental style performing arts center with full-fly stage house, practice and music areas. Through a series of “found space” recoveries, the former auditorium was converted to library use, the former gym to commons/support areas, and the former library to classrooms. A comprehensive high school, shops were created for 13 vocation & tech prep programs as well.
