Wayne County Historical Society Museum

Additions and Alterations

The Wayne County Historical Society museum and research library expansion is an important step to bringing the treasures of Wayne County to its guests and residents by improving access to the museum’s facility, adding climate controlled collection preparation and storage areas and enhancing the research library. Located in Honesdale, Pennsylvania, the design encompasses a new, two-story with basement addition (5,292 SF) for exhibit galleries and climate controlled collection storage and a new elevator and circulation core to provide access to lower-level local Native American exhibit, first floor gallery areas and second floor collection storage.

Key Features of the project include an architectural solution that does not challenge the existing building, improved visitor circulation, fully handicapped accessibility, relocation of portions of the collection to above grade climate controlled storage, provision of access to basement for the future creation of a hands-on history lab, work rooms and new community meeting room. When the project is completed, the research library will be doubled in size and the entire museum will be serviced by humidity control and improved heating and cooling systems.
