While the professional environment in architecture is typically fairly staid, McKissick Associates strives to create a "family" of employees and clients. Our Winston-Salem location is a small office of 5 to 10 employees. We always welcome serious inquiries for registered architects, architectural technicians and architectural designers.
Staff at McKissick Associates are generally not compartmentalized, either professionally or socially. Everyone is expected to contribute to the greater good of the firm and at times the work environment can be stressful and demanding. Job descriptions are broad and flexible. In return, we offer a comfortable work environment and considerable personal flexibility to our staff that is somewhat unique in the industry.
Our office is pet friendly. There are usually one or more dogs present in the office daily (some of which that are quite large). Children of staff are welcome if their presence is not overly intrusive or distracting.
While we understand that large firms have encouraged certain habits in their employees (including the "that's not my job!" mantra and the inclination to author memos in response various infractions by co-workers), we strongly discourage the "CYA" type of environments found elsewhere. We accept that we are a collection of artistically inclined individuals and as such must respect the variety of unique and unusual personality types encountered among the talented in this industry.
