Gina M. Douty Named to Mechanicsburg Historical and Architectural Review Board

May 2, 2005

Gina M. Douty, historic preservation specialist for McKissick Associates, PC, one of Harrisburg's leading architectural firms, was recently named to, and elected Vice-Chairman of the newly formed Mechanicsburg Historical and Architectural Review Board (HARB) by the Mechanicsburg Borough Council.

The HARB is an advisory group that counsels the Borough Council. Its main goal is to ensure that exterior improvements do not detract from the historic integrity of the historic district without compromising future development.

Ms. Douty has a number of local projects in which she has played a significant role. Among these are the upcoming Exterior Rehabilitation of the Millersburg Train Station, Historic Structures Reports for Dill's Tavern in Dillsburg, Lyken's Train Station, and a Storefront Rehabilitation Proposal for Downtown Dillsburg. She also has written successful grants for several local preservation groups.

Prior to her work with McKissick Associates, she was an architectural designer and historic preservation specialist with the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. At that time, she was one of the youngest, and only women, with the title of architectural designer for the entire Commonwealth.

A graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Architecture with a Special Studies in Historic Preservation, and graduate work in American Studies, Ms. Douty is a member of the Pennsylvania Downtown Center, Historic Harrisburg Association, the Historical Society of Dauphin County, and the Mechanicsburg Museum Association. She is also secretary of the board of directors of the Friends of the Joseph T. Simpson Public Library in Mechanicsburg.
