Trina
Burke, Associate Partner, Project Manager
|
As
McKissick Associates' first employee, Trina Burke has seen
the architectural firm go through all of its developmental
phases and been an integral part of the success story that
Vern and Kristen McKissick envisioned when they opened the
doors in 1999.
After
graduating cum laude from Wellesley College with a degree in
architecture, Trina worked for software giant EDS writing
computer programs. Fortunately, the Manlius, NY native then
moved into her true calling and went to work for BASCO
Associates in York, PA as an architect. At BASCO, a division
of the global engineering firm, Buchart-Horn, Trina blended
her architectural and computer expertise in a variety of
staff and administrative assignments, eventually becoming a
project manager.
Responding
to the challenge of a new venture, Trina left the corporate
constraints of a particularly large firm for the flexibility
of a smaller one with McKissick Associates in 1999. At
McKissick Associates she has served as project manager for a
variety of endeavors, including: the Charlotte Lappla
Elementary School in Wellsboro, PA; the Cumberland-Perry
Area Vocational-Technical School in Mechanicsburg, PA; and
the St. Stephens Episcopal Cathedral and Cathedral School
renovations in Harrisburg.
Outside
of the office, Trina's interests exhibit a diverse interest
in the arts, having served as co-chair on several Harrisburg
Community Theater events, and as a board member of Historic
Harrisburg Associates. Presently she is affiliated with the
Harrisburg Symphony Society. Her family takes first priority
though, playing and exploring with her kids; always looking
for new adventures. Other "outside" interests include
racquetball, bike riding, and travel.
Her
appreciation for music, as evidenced by her Symphony Society
affiliation obviously extends to her personal side.
Something that coworkers and clients may find surprising in
Trina's repertoire is the fact that she has recently started
taking drum lessons.
When
asked what her proudest accomplishment, to date, with
McKissick Associates is, she replied: "What I'm proudest of
with McKissick Associates, I would say, is our first
project, the Charlotte Lappla Elementary School for the
Wellsboro Area School District. It was our first project,
beginning right when I was hired. I enjoyed the experience
of putting it together with our limited team and am proud
that we were able to create an award winner out of it.
Otherwise, I am very proud of our firm and how we rise to
the challenge of every project we have been involved with
since that very first one."
